Hanoi to the Mekong Delta. Join us on our ninth adventure to this exotic land. This trip has an optional pre-trip excursion to Sapa, in the north part of Vietnam, and an optional post-trip extension to Angkor Wat, Cambodia.

Basic Itinerary for the main portion of the trip:

Day 1: Depart the US

Day 2: Lose a day crossing the International Date Line.

Day 3: Arrive Hanoi. Upon arrival, you'll be transferred to the hotel. The rest of the day is free. If you arriving from the pre-trip extension to Sapa, you will be met at the train station and transferred to the hotel.

Day 4: Hanoi: This morning we'll enjoy a pedicab ride to the historic French Quarter. We will then have an orientation tour of Hanoi, including visits to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the One Pillar Pagoda, and the Temple of Literature. We'll also visit the great Ethnology Museum. Tonight we'll enjoy an amazing water puppet show, followed by our welcome dinner.

Day 5: Hanoi to Ha Long: Today we'll travel by bus to Ha Long Bay. The South China Sea in this area is characterized by 1600 beautiful limestone "mountains" rising from the sea. We'll take a very unique overnight boat ride.

Day 6: Ha Long to Hanoi to Hue: After breakfast we'll visit the Sung Sot cave and a fishing village called Vara. We'll enjoy lunch and then head back to the main pier for our transfer to the airport, where we'll catch our flight to Hue.

Day 7: Hue: In the morning we'll take an orientation tour of Hue, including the historic Citadel,which housed the Imperial Forbidden City. In the afternoon, we'll enjoy a boat ride up the Perfume River to see more sights. This evening we'll transfer to a lovely dinner via pedicab.

Day 8: Hue to the DMZ: Depart for the Dong Ha Commune to visit the DMZ in Quang Tri Province. We'll also visit Khe Sanh field, and then return to Dong Ha for lunch. Afternoon is free in Hue.

Day 9: Hue to Hoi An: Lots of beautiful scenery today! When we arrive in the Da Nang area, we'll take 30 minutes to visit the Cham Art Museum and have lunch at a local restaurant. Then it's on to Hoi An for a three-night stay at the beach. It's like a vacation in the middle of your tour!

Day 10: Hoi An - My Son. Today we'll drive inland to see the historical site of My Son-Cham Holy See. We'll return to Hoi An for lunch and an orientation tour of the Old Town area. Hoi An is a unique town with lots of great things to explore.

Day 11: Hoi An. A full free day to do as you wish.

Day 12: Hoi An to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC): Today we'll fly to HCMC, where we'll explore the town, and enjoy another outstanding pedicab ride. Great way to explore the city!

Day 13: HCMC to Cu Chi to HCMC: This morning we'll visit Cu Chi, where the Viet Cong built a massive underground tunnel system. It's a great feat of engineering.

Day 14: HCMC to Vinh Long to Can Tho: We'll depart early this morning for the Cai Be boat station for a three-hour boat ride around the Delta. We'll walk on some of the islands, and get a feel for rural life in that area. Can Tho is home to charming riverside landscapes, paddy fields, floating markets, and a myriad of canals creating some very beautiful views.

Day 15: Can Tho: This morning we'll embark on a fantastic boat ride to visit the huge floating markets in the area. Afternoon and evening are free to explore on your own.

Day 16: Can Tho to HCMC: Today we'll head back to HCMC for our last night, including a lovely farewell dinner.

Day 17: Head back to the US, or to Cambodia for the optional extension to Angkor Wat.
