ROUTE: BUDAPEST-ORADEA-CLUJ-BRASOV-BUCHAREST-BELGRADE-SZEGED-BUDAPEST

Day 1, June 4: Depart from the US

Day 2, June 5: Arrive in Budapest, Hungary

Day 3, June 6: Budapest: Morning tour of beautiful Budapest, seeing the highlights. Free afternoon to explore at your leisure. In the evening, a Danube river cruise including dinner.

Day 4, June 7: Budapest: Today we'll have an unforgettable tour along the Blue Danube with stops in Visegrd, Esztergom and Szentendre.

Church in old Budapest, HungaryDay 5: June 8: Budapest – Oradea, Romania: We’ll head off in the morning after breakfast for the Romanian frontier to the east. Our destination is Oradea (Nagyvarad in Hungarian), Romania. Oradea is a lovely historic city on the Romanian-Hungarian border with a population of just over two hundred thousand.

Day 6: June 9: Oradea – Cluj-Napoca: After breakfast we’ll head to Cluj-Napoca, the “Capital of Transylvania” at the foothills of the Carpathian mountains. You’ll enjoy wondering the streets and alleys of this small picturesque city.

Day 7: June 10: Cluj-Napoca (Visit to Bran “Dracula’s” Castle): In the morning we’ll take a city tour of Cluj. Then, we’ll head off to Bran’s Castle, also known as “Dracula’s Castle.” Located on a cliff top in the countryside outside of Cluj, Bran castle is one of the most famous sites in Transylvania, and not just because its association with Vlad III, “The Impaler.” It is an architectural marvel in its own right.

Day 8: June 11: Cluj-Napoca - Bucharest: Our Transylvanian journey concludes in Sinaia, a mountain resort. While there, we’ll tour Peles castle, summer home of King Carol I, the greatest of all the Romanian kings.  In the afternoon we’ll transition to the very cosmopolitan Romanian capital: Bucharest.

Day 9: June 12: Bucharest: We’ll start the day with a morning tour of Bucharest. Free afternoon. In the evening, we’ll enjoy a Romanian folklore and music show as we dine on traditional foods of the region.

Day 10: June 13: Bucharest – Sofia, Bulgaria: We hit the road and head to Sofia, Bulgaria. We’ll take our time and enjoy the scenery.

Day 11: June 14: Sofia, Bulgaria: Half-day tour of Sofia, including the unique Mount Vitosha, which looms over the city and offers ski runs, hiking, mineral springs and natural beauty.

Day 12: June 15: Sofia: Half-day tour to the world-famous Rila Monastery, the largest Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. Founded in the 10th century, the Rila Monastery is regarded as one of Bulgaria's most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments and it is a key tourist attraction in Bulgaria. Free afternoon. In the evening we’ll take in a cultural show and traditional Bulgarian meal.

Day 13: June 16: Sofia – Belgrade, Serbia: In the morning, we’ll set off for Nis, the third-largest city in Serbia and long considered one of the oldest and historic Balkan cities. Then, we’ll finish the afternoon on the road to Belgrade, capital of Serbia.

Day 14: June 17: Belgrade: This morning we’ll embark on a city tour highlighting the most famous sites and districts in Belgrade. Free afternoon. We’ll regroup for dinner in the famous Skardalija district.

Day 15: June 18: Belgrade - Budapest: Midway on our journey to Hungary, we’ll stop for several hours in Szeged, which offers a laid back atmosphere, bursting with energy, culture and bustling street life. After some exploration there, we’ll come full circle as we follow the Danube river back up to Budapest. Farewell dinner tonight!

Day 16: June 19. Budapest – Hone or extension of stay:
